About the Role
Evergreen Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative learning guide to assist the lead teacher in our alternative, nature-based microschool for young children 5-9 years of age. Our students and staff love learning and working at our microschool! Enjoy four-day work weeks in a beautiful setting. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about fostering a love for learning in children through play based, STEAM, and student-centered learning approaches in indoor and outdoor environments. The ideal candidate will serve as both a coach and guide to learners, creating a nurturing, engaging, and hands-on environment that meets grade-level standards and supports holistic, whole-child education.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (some college coursework in education, child development, or environmental studies preferred).
Experience working with children in an educational, outdoor, or childcare setting.
Basic knowledge of nature-based education, outdoor learning, or environmental studies.
First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before starting).
Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, Child Development, or a related field.
Experience supporting educators in a classroom or outdoor setting.
Familiarity with inquiry-based, experiential, or Waldorf/Montessori-inspired teaching methods.
Wilderness First Aid certification.
Essential Skills & Abilities:
Passion for nature-based learning and child development.
Ability to engage with students in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to support lead teachers and students.
Physical ability to be active throughout the day, including walking, hiking, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Creativity, patience, and adaptability when working with children in dynamic settings.
Responsibilities:
Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing outdoor lessons and activities.
Supervise and support students in their exploration, play, and learning.
Ensure the safety and well-being of students in an outdoor environment.
Set up and clean up materials for learning activities.
Help maintain a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere.

Evergreen Academy is a secular, nature based micro school located in the heart of Conway, Arkansas serving students 5-9 years of age. Our school is a modernized version of the traditional one room school house. Our students get to enjoy our cozy indoor learning spaces and immersive outdoor environments at our location on an urban flower farm. We are a small learning pod guided by caring, passionate, and certified facilitators.Â
